Shared versus dedicated channels. In an Ethernet network, every client, server and network device is wired to a hub or switch. A hub shares the total bandwidth among all users, while a switch provides a dedicated line at full bandwidth between every two devices transmitting to each other. In the 1990s, switches were much more costly than hubs, and devices were carefully evaluated based on the traffic requirement. By the turn of the century, switches became much less expensive, and the popularity of hubs began to wane.
Ethernet LAN wiring is reasonably straightforward but the correct color coded wires must be wired to the pins of the jack. It is not enough to simply get the colors consistent between the ends of the cable, it is also necessary to use one of the two established wiring color standards, T568A or T568B.
We’ve all heard the saying, “You get what you pay for,” and it’s become increasingly clear that MagicJack is no exception. MagicJack is a small, crafty device that claims to dramatically change the world of telecommunications for a ridiculously low annual fee. The reality? You'll probably find yourself down and out after ordering MagicJack's service. Does MagicJack work? Probably not.
Ping is a program that sends a series of packets over a network or the Internet to a specific computer in order to generate a response from that computer. The other computer responds with an acknowledgment that it received the packets. Ping was created to verify whether a specific computer on a network or the Internet exists and is connected.
The acronym VLAN expands to Virtual Local Area Network. A VLAN is a logical local area network (or LAN) that extends beyond a single traditional LAN to a group of LAN segments, given specific configurations. Because a VLAN is a logical entity, its creation and configuration is done completely in software.
This will allow you to create multiple users on a router and is a handy tool to find out who did what at what time (permitting logging is on and the correct date/time is configured)
We first start of with creating the users using the following command: username user password password
We use this command for each user we want to create.
