A phone interview is very frightening. It much worse than a classic interview because you never know went to expect it. Let’s imagine you’re home, relaxing, watching a TV show after an exhausting work. The phone is ringing…Hello?..umm, yeah, that’s me…aaammm…yeah I applied…sorry, I am very tired, can I call you tomorrow?

Of course this is not how a phone interview should go.

The first phone interview tip is this: Be ready at any time. You never know when they might call you so you have to prepare and to practice the words you will say.

When you receive the phone call, it’s important to have everything you need near you. You might need your CV, some information about the company, information about yourself, internet connection and a pen so you can write down if needed.

The interviewer can’t see you; you can’t use any gestures to help you, so all you’ve got is your voice. 

You need to practice your voice tone. Ask a friend how your voice sounds and make the right adjustments in order to make it sound as professionally as you can. Always stand up when talking because it makes your voice sound more clear and confident.  You need to sound enthusiastic and very confident. Also, answer the phone with you name to avoid any misunderstandings, you should be 110% focused on the interview.

Another useful phone interview tip is to remove yourself from any possible distraction during the interview. When being asked, take a few seconds to think but don’t overthink the answer and don’t talk too much.
